Taplejung, Trekking Destination of Eastern Nepal

Timbung Pokhari is one of the tourist destinations of Taplejung that is stationed at 4480m from the sea level. Being at a high altitude and due to lack of enough tourist residents, Timbung Pokhari is not that popular known. But, in fact, this place must need to visit at least once in life just to capture the scenic mountain range of Mt. Everest and Mt. Kanchanjunga and also the high hills. Lumba Sumba Peak Climb:

In between massifs of Mt. Kanchanjunga and Mt. Makalu you will find the peak climb of Lumba Sumba. This place is also the popular trekking destination that is needed to be explored during your visit to Taplejung. The peak lies in the south of the trekking route that connects Taplejung and Tamur River valley and Arun Valley.

Ancient Gompas:

While you are following the trekking route to different trekking destination, you will catch up with different ancient monasteries, where the history behind the place is preserved. The popular monasteries you will find in the way is Diki Chhyoling Gompa of Olangchungola. In this monastery, you will find a life-size statue of Avalokiteshwara.

When and How to reach Taplejung:

The perfect time to explore the prominent tourist destinations of Taplejung is in between July-October. During this time the sky seems to be much clear and climate of this season also favorable enough to start the daily adventurous hike.

There is a different route available to reach Taplejung. You can either take flight from Kathmandu to Suketar and start trekking else, you can go by road via exploring the other districts of eastern Nepal such as Ilam, Jhapa, Morang and Panchthar.

Kathmandu to Timbung Pokhari, Taplejung via Jhapa and Panchthar by Road:

Kathmandu Bus Park (direct deluxe bus available) > Birtamod, Jhapa > Tharpu, Panchthar > Kali Khola, Taplejung > Bikhechaur, Taplejung > Timbung Pokhari.

Kathmandu to Lumba Sumba Base Camp:

Kathmandu (TIA) > Bhadrapur, Jhapa > Suketar, Taplejung (by road) > Olungchungola (trekking) > Lumba Sumba Base Camp

Kathmandu to Pathibhara Devi Temple, Taplejung:

Kathmandu > Bhadrapur, Jhapa > Ilam > Taplejung bazaar > Deurali > Suketar > Phedi > Pathibhara Devi Temple

Kathmandu to Kanchanjunga Circuit Trek:

Kathmandu > Bhadrapur (either take bus or take flight) > Taplejung Bazaar > Lalikharka > Khesewa > Mamankhe > Yamphudin > Tortong > Cheram > Ramchaur > Yalung Base Camp > Sele La > Ghunsa > Kambachen > Lhonak > Pangpema > Kanchanjunga Base Camp
