Morang District, Nepal

Being the district surrounded by different Industries and Factories, Morang, Nepal is popularly known as the district of production. After Kathmandu, Morang is the second-largest city in Nepal. Since the maximum area of the land of Morang is covered by fertile Terai land, so the district is not popular for trekking or any adventurous journey, but Morang is one of the culturally diverse regions of Nepal. So, Morang is the prominent destination to spend the holidays or weekends with friends, family, and relatives.

Morang is 540 km away from the capital and is one of the most developed cities of Nepal. The district surrounds Bihar (India) to South, Jhapa to East, Dhankuta, and Panchthar to North and Sunsari to the west.

Baraha Chhetra Morang

Etymology

The district name Morang is kept after the Kirat King Mawrong Mung Hang. He is the man who names one of the kingdoms as Morang at the beginning of the seventh century.

With the influence of old Morang Kingdom, later Shah kings divided the country into administrative districts and named one of the districts as Morang. After clearing out the maximum number of trees and prepare the area for the Human settlement.

Baraha Chhetra

Baraha Chhetra is the Hindu pilgrimage site of Nepal. According to the historical belief, it is the same place where Lord Bishnu’s avatar, Barah- a boar incarnation killed demon Hiranakshya. The images of the boar are distributed throughout the temple but the dedicated idol of the temple is Barah. The temple lies in the junction of Sapta Koshi and Koka river.

Urlabari

It is the second-largest city after Biratnagar in Morang district. Despite the lack of sight-seeing places compare to other destination of Morang, Urlabari is the enrich town with the developed infrastructure and facilities such as Education, tourist hub, restaurant, lodge, and Bar. During the festive season such as Dashain, after having the Tika and Jamara people used to spend the remaining days in Urlabari. Betana Simsar is the central tourist hub of Urlabari.

Biratnagar Jute Mills

During the ruling period of Prime Minister Juddha Shamsher, Biratnagar Jute Mill was established in 1936 and it is one of the oldest Jute Mills of Nepal. To know how the old classic and traditional factory looks like and to know how the sacks were processed through it, Biratnagar Jute Mill has become the central attraction of Biratnagar. It is the first registered company of Nepal and is 75 years old Mill.

Saptakoshi River:

Saptakoshi River is formed with seven large tributaries and they are Tamakoshi, Arunkoshi, Dudhkoshi, Tamurkoshi, Bhotekoshi, Sunkoshi and Indrawati. Moreover, the place is famous for a religious site where hundreds of pilgrims used to visit.

Koshi Tappu Wildlife reserve

Directly the Koshi Tappu Wildlife reserve is not located in Morang district of Nepal, but the neighboring district Sunsari and Saptari touch the certain portion of land. So, if you are planning for some more days then you can get the time to spend your days in Koshi Tappu wildlife reserve, which reserves 400 species of bird.

Biratnagar Morang

Transportation

Morang is 375km away from Kathmandu if you wish to travel via B.P. Highway. There is a direct deluxe bus available from Kathmandu to Biratnagar. Also, there is a flight service available from Kathmandu to Biratnagar, you can keep in option. The bus fare from Kathmandu to Morang is Rs.1500-Rs.1800. The flight cost from Kathmandu to Biratnagar is NPR.4495 (40$).
