Gorkha the land of great Gurkha Battalions

Gorkha is the beautiful, enrich historical district of Nepal, which is praised for the origination of great Gurkha Battalions and for being the birthplace of late King Prithvi Narayan Shah, who unified the rival kingdoms of Nepal in 1769. The old, beautiful architectural design of Gorkha Durbar, which is the former palace of the Shah’s is the center of attraction of Gorkha district.   6. It is the initial point to start the trekking to the Manaslu trek circuit.

Mahadev Temple

On next to the ceremonial tank, you will find a Shikhara style temple dedicated to Ganesh.

Vishnu Temple

After walking a few minutes to the north from the bus stand, you will find the two-tiered temple, which is dedicated to Vishnu.

Manaslu Circuit Trek

Gorkha is the departure place to the popular trekking site Manaslu trekk circuit. Before leaving for the trekking, trekkers often visit Gorkha before heading.

Manakamana Temple

How to reach Gorkha

Gorkha is connected by different highways and is 4 hours in distance from Kathmandu, 10 hours in distance from Birgunj, 10 hours in distance from Bhairahawa/Sunauli and is 3 hours in distance from Pokhara. There is plenty of regular buses available from a different district of Nepal, that passes via Abu Khaireni. You might need to get down in Abu Khaireni and take another local bus that joins Gorkha.
